Rockford Drops Tough Road Game to Wisconsin Lutheran

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Rockford University men's basketball team (8-8, 6-5 NACC) dropped its only regular season meeting with the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors (12-4, 9-2), 101-77 on Tuesday evening. Despite what the final score might indicate, the game was within reach for the majority of the evening. The Regents led for a chunk of the first half and entered the intermission trailing by just six points. The spread remained six in the opening minutes of the second half before the Warriors began to pull away. The Warriors shot a blistering 54.5% (18-of-33) from three-point range, including draining 13 triples in the second half en route to victory.

  • The night got off to a good start for the Regents, as Rockford took a four-point lead at the 13:23 mark. Four different Regents combined to score Rockford's opening 12 points, led by four from senior Jamar Rivera
  • Rockford continued to hold a four-point advantage following a Kivontay Shaw layup, to make it a 16-12 game with 12:15 left in the first half.
  • However, the Warriors used a 10-2 run over a 2:03 span to take their largest lead thus far, at 22-18.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran would slowly build its lead to as many 11 points following an Andrew Bruggink triple with just over three minutes remaining until halftime.
  • Fortunately, Rockford closed the half on a 7-2 run to make it just a six-point deficit heading into the break. Brandon Emerick led the late RU run with six points off a pair of triples over the final 2:26 of the half.
  • The Warrior lead remained at six points over the opening couple minutes of the second half.
  • However, from that moment on, the momentum swung heavily in Wisconsin Lutheran's favor. The Warriors went on a 13-0 run over the next three minutes to take a 60-41 lead.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran would push its lead to as many as 29 points en route to the 101-77 win.

  • Kivontay Shaw tallied his first double-double of the season. Shaw finished with a game-high 11 rebounds, 10 points, 3 assists and 1 steal.
  • Nathaniel Shead tied for the team-high with 13 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds and 1 block.
  • Brandon Emerick also had 13 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal.
  • Vincent Eugene added 11 points on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting off the bench. He also had 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.
  • Jamar Rivera had 10 points on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting performance. He also added 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block.

The RU men's basketball team returns to the court on Saturday, January 25 at Illinois Tech. Tip-off is set for 2 PM.
