DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Rockford University men's volleyball team (0-2) fell in straight sets on Friday evening to the Loras College Duhawks (1-0). Rockford dropped the first set 25-17, before falling 25-14 in the second and 25-13 in the third. The Regents struggled offensively for the second consecutive match, as Rockford tallied just seven kills on the evening. However, Rockford did a much better job with its serve against the Duhawks. The Regents tallied a program-high six service aces.
- The first set was fairly competitive throughout.
- Rockford led on multiple occasions in the opening moments, as the Regents and Duhawks traded points. Jeremy Weaver gave Rockford its first lead of the match, at 2-1, with his first service ace of the season. The Regents would then take a 3-2 lead after a Duhawk attack error.
- The set continued to go back-and-forth until Loras ran off four straight points to leap out in front 10-6.
- Unfortunately, Rockford was never able to get any closer than three points, as the Duhawks closed the set on a 7-3 run for the 25-17 win.
- The second set got off to a rough start for the Regents. Loras opened on a 10-2 run, including scoring the first five points.
- Rockford was able to get back within six points at 18-12, following back-to-back service aces from Marcus Pennington.
- However, the Duhawks again closed the set strong, scoring seven of the final nine points for the 25-14 win.
- The third set got off to a similar start as the second, with Loras taking an early 10-3 advantage.
- Unfortunately, Rockford never really threatened for the remainder of the match, falling 25-13 in the third set and 3-0 in the match.
The RU men's volleyball team returns to action with a pair of matches on Friday, January 31 at Greenville. The Regents open with Fontbonne at 5 PM followed by Greenville at 7 PM.
