Seven Game Win Streak Snapped in 3-0 Loss

FORT MYERS, Fla. The Rockford University baseball team (7-1) lost its first game of the season 3-0 to Carroll University (3-5). The Regents struggled to get something going offensively as they only had four hits the entire game. Carroll University took advantage of a strong pitching performance and defensive showing allowing no runs. The Pioneers scored one run in the third, sixth and eighth innings to secure the 3-0 victory. Joseph Kmiec threw well for the Regents, going seven innings, striking out nine with two earned runs and no walks.

  • Joseph Kmiec started the game throwing two shutout innings with four strikeouts. He struck out five more batters over five more innings of work, allowing two runs to give the Regents a good chance at another win.
  • Unfortunately, Carroll scored one run in the third on a pickoff attempt, one run in the sixth on an RBI single and one run in the eighth on an RBI double to lead 3-0.
  • Rockford was unable to push across a run leaving eight men on base. Phil Hyland was 2-2 on the day with a big double in the bottom of the third to try and give the Regents the spark they needed. The Regents produced two more hits on the day coming from Corey Saracco and Peyton McCray.

The RU baseball team returns to the diamond on Thursday, March 12 for a double-header against Merchant Marine and Wittenberg. The first game is scheduled for 8 AM and the second game is scheduled for 11 AM central time in Fort Myers, Florida.
