NAPLES, Fla. - The Rockford University softball team (6-2) triumphed 10-2 over Curry College (2-6). The Regents jumped on Curry, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Rockford stayed consistent scoring four runs in the fourth inning, two runs in the sixth inning and one run in the seventh inning. Annaka Bartz had a massive game hitting two home runs with four RBI's.
- Annaka Bartz led off the game with a homer to center-field. Michaela Spanbauer grounded out to third base to score Emily Cox. Jessica Kearns hit a single through the left side to score Mikayla Seay and end the scoring for the top of the first inning.
- Curry answered, scoring one run on an error by the Regents.
- In the top of the fourth inning, Annaka Bartz roped a single up the middle to score Destiny Darmon. Emily Cox came up to the plate and hit another single for the Regents, Annaka Bartz and Katelyn Boomgarden scored on an error by the centerfielder. Mikayla Seay continued the rally for the Regents, hitting a single into center field to score Emily Cox and allow Rockford to lead 7-1.
- Curry scored its final run of the game in the fifth inning off an RBI single.
- Rockford's final three runs came in the sixth and seventh innings. Annaka Bartz drilled a two-run homer to left field in the top of the sixth inning for her second home run of the game. Destiny Darmon delivered the final blow with a single to left field, scoring Michaela Spanbauer and to take the win 10-2.
- Rylee Klema pitched a gem, throwing seven innings while striking out nine and giving up one earned run on five hits.
- Annaka Bartz put her power on display with 2 home runs, going 3-4 with 4 RBI's and 3 runs scored.
- Emily Cox went 2-4 with 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored.
- Mikayla Seay finished 2-4 with a stolen base, 1 RBI and 1 run scored.
- Rylee Klema threw a 7 inning complete game giving up 5 hits and 1 earned run on nine strikeouts and no walks.
The RU softball team returns to the diamond for a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 25 at Mercyhealth Sportscore Two. First pitch is scheduled for 5 PM against University of Dubuque.
