ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Regents (5-11-1, 3-8-1 NACC) couldn't overcome a 2-goal deficit that came at the beginning of the game against Illinois Tech (7-11-1, 3-8-1 NACC). It was 2-0 in favor of Illinois Tech after 15 minutes in the game. A breakaway attempt in the 3rd minute of action gave Illinois Tech the lead and a second goal on a pass through the defense gave them a strong advantage. Rockford was held scoreless until the 85th minute when a shot by
Javier Palacios was rebounded to
Kacper Stepaniak who took another shot, this time for the goal. No more goals would be scored before the final horn, and the men's soccer team would miss out on senior night and their final match of the season, 2-1.
- The Scarlet Hawks were off to a very fast start and went on the attack early. After a blocked shot and a team save, the ball would come back down the field and a shot to the lower left would get past goalkeeper Jonathan Eduardo Rosales for the first goal of the game.
- Rockford would spend the next 12 minutes playing defense for the most part, until they were able to move down the field for a corner kick that would result in a counterattack for Illinois Tech.
- Illinois Tech would go on the offensive again, a pass through the defense hit the feet of Michael Kaczowka who put the ball in from 10 yards out to expand the lead to 2-0.
- Rockford would apply plenty of pressure throughout the rest of the half, putting 3 shots on goal to try and cut the lead before half but the Regents were unsuccessful.
- The Regents would try and put shots on to start the second but were hitting wide of the net, while Illinois Tech put a couple shot on Rosales that he was able to save.
- Rockford finally got on the board in the 85th minute when a shot by Javier Palacios was saved by the goalkeeper, but put back into the net by Kacper Stepaniak to cut the lead to one goal.
- The ball would be played around midfield for the rest of the contest, neither side giving an inch, and the official would blow his whistle to end regulation. Rockford would come up just short on their final game of the season 2-1.
- Abraham Gonzales had a 100% shot percentage as his team-high 3 shots were all on goal.
- Kacper Stepaniak would come off the bench and take one shot that resulted in the only goal for the Regents.
The Regent's men's soccer team had some great highlights to look back on, celebrating the accomplishments from the past season:
- The Regents won three conference matches on the year, including a stunning 2-0 win against Concordia University Wisconsin. It was the first win the Regents have had against CUW since they joined the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference
- Rockford retained the State Line trophy from their competition against Beloit, winning comfortably 4-0. This was also their largest win of the season.
- The team put together a game-high 27 shots against opponent Edgewood as part of their 2-0 start to conference competition.
- Finally, the Rockford Regents had their first 2-0 start in conference in more than 12 years of competition, a great accomplishment.
