ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University football team (2-8, 1-7 NACC) could not keep up with Lakeland University (8-2, 6-2 NACC) in a hard-fought loss 56-28 Saturday afternoon. Despite the 258 yards worth of penalties between the two sides, Lakeland was able to put up 35 points in the first half and only gave up 7 on a
LaVar Johnson Jr. rush into the end zone. Lakeland and Rockford each score 21 points in the last two quarters of play, but the damage was already done, and the Regents couldn't overcome the deficit from the first half, losing on senior day 56-28.
- Lakeland got on the board first with a 30-yard pass play to open the scoring after less than two minutes of possession time. The extra point was good to make it 7-0 Muskies.
- Rockford's first possession stalled out after three minutes and only 34 yards gained. Titus Cannon was able to get open and catch 2 passes for a combined 16 yards to help the Regents.
- Larry Rivers for Lakeland took over the next drive, he put together 51 yards of rushing on the team's next drive, ending up in the end zone for his first touchdown of the day, 14-0 Lakeland in the lead.
- Rockford failed to find much offense again the next drive, only able to move forward thanks to a combined 13 yards rushing by LaVar Johnson Jr. They tried for it on 4th down and ended up turning the ball over back to Lakeland.
- The Muskies next drive barely had enough time to develop before quarterback Nunnery threw a pass into traffic that was intercepted by Garrick McGregor to get the ball back into Regent hands.
- Once into the second quarter, an interception gave Lakeland the ball back, the Muskies charged down the field and capitalized with a three-yard touchdown run to make it 21-0 Lakeland.
- Rockford couldn't convert its next drive to points and gave the ball back to Lakeland. Larry Rivers got four straight rushing attempts that totaled 60 yards and earned himself another touchdown, making the score 28-0.
- With a little over two minutes left in the half, LaVar Johnson Jr. got the scoring started for the Regents, rushing in from one yard out to make the score 28-7.
- After the kickoff and a rushing attempt, Lakeland completed a 77-yard pass for another touchdown only 24 seconds later. The half ended without any more points being scored, Lakeland leading 35-7.
- The second half started with back-to-back drives with no scoring, and then Jaelen Ray threw a pass to Emani Johnson for a 15-yard touchdown to draw closer to Lakeland 35-14.
- The Muskies responded with a quarterback run from seven yards out put the game further out of reach to end the third quarter at 42-14.
- Jaelen Ray led a strong drive down the field and finished it off with a great throw to senior Jamon Carter-Grady for a 17-yard touchdown to make the score 42-21.
- Lakeland returned the favor a little over two and a half minutes later, with a pass from Nunnery to a waiting Brice Kensey who made a spectacular catch to put the Muskies up 49-21.
- Titus Cannon received a pass from Ray and broke free for a 31-yard touchdown reception shortly after the Lakeland score, making it a 49-28 game.
- After an onside kickoff try, the Muskies went down the field one final time and scored on yet another pass to Kensey for the touchdown, completing the last score of the game 56-28.
- Jaelen Ray threw 53 times (a school record) for 249 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception.
- LaVar Johnson Jr. rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown.
- Titus Cannon caught 6 passes for 85 yards and a touchdown.
- Amari Jackson led the team in total tackles with 9.
- Garrick McGregor recorded both interceptions for the Regents, tying the school record.
- Will Havens had 2 total tackles for loss with his 7 total tackles.
- Andrew Heath recorded the Regent's only sack of the day.

With the Regent's football season coming to an end, plenty of records were shattered this season and a couple of individuals will be on the all-time list in Rockford football history.
- Jaelen Ray broke the school records for passing yards, touchdowns, completions, attempts, and total offense in a single game. He broke the school season records for passing yards, attempts, completions, touchdowns, and total offense.
- LaVar Johnson Jr. will finish second-highest in school history for career and season rushing touchdowns and single-game rushing touchdowns. LaVar tied the record for total touchdowns and points scored in a single game as well. He finishes third in career rushing yards and career rushing attempts.
- Joey Owens will graduate as the record holder for receiving touchdowns in a single game. He holds the season record in receiving yards, receptions, receiving touchdowns, points scored, and ties the record for total season touchdowns. Owens is now the school career leader in receiving yards, receptions, and receiving touchdowns. Joey will also claim the NACC record for receiving yards in a season.
