Women's Hoops Falls for the First Time this Season

APPLETON, Wis. - The Rockford University women's basketball team (2-1) fell for the first time this season on Saturday afternoon, 77-57 on the road to the Lawrence University Vikings (2-1). It was a difficult day for Rockford in its first road game of the season. The Regents shot just 32.8% from the floor, compared to 41.1% for the Vikings. However, Rockford did outshoot Lawrence from three-point range (35.7%-28.6%). The Vikings also controlled the glass, outrebounding Rockford 49-31 and had a big edge in points off turnovers (27-13). Despite all of that, Rockford was able to stay within striking distance until midway through the second half, when the Vikings pulled away for the victory.

  • Audrina Terhune scored the game's first points and Anaya Davis followed with a triple, to give Rockford a quick 5-0 lead at the 7:28 mark.

  • Unfortunately, Lawrence closed the quarter on a 10-0 run, to take a 15-10 advantage into the second.

  • However, Rockford used a 12-6 run late in the first half, to make it a nine-point game with just over a minute remaining. Audrina Terhune and Evelyn Abundes each chipped in five points to lead the charge.
  • The Vikings were able to tack on a pair of free throws in the closing seconds, to take a 38-27 lead into halftime.
  • The Viking lead bounced back and forth between nine and eleven points in the opening minutes of the second half, until Lawrence scored nine straight points to take a 49-31 advantage.
  • Lawrence would push its lead to as many as 21 points, before taking a 59-41 lead into the fourth quarter.
  • Rockford hit its first four shots of the fourth quarter and cut the deficit down to just 12 points. Kiara Stevens and Audrina Terhune drained back-to-back triples, and then Stevens connected on a fast break layup off a Viking turnover, to make it a 61-49 game.
