ELGIN, Ill. - The Rockford University men's basketball team (4-1) earned a 96-87 road win on Wednesday evening over the Judson University Eagles (4-6). Rockford had five players score in double-figures for the first time this season, including a pair of players,
Brandon Emerick and
DJ Bonds, pour in at least 20 points. The Regents and Eagles shot an identical 47.9% from the floor (34-of-71), but Rockford made ten triples, compared to just five for Judson. However, the difference in the game was ultimately Rockford's ability to get to and convert at the free throw line. The Regents finished a perfect 18-of-18 at the charity stripe, while the Eagles missed eight of their 22 free throw attempts.
- TJ Lacey and Jaden Bell scored back-to-back baskets to begin the game and give Rockford a quick 4-0 lead less than a minute in.
- The Eagles answered with a 10-5 run to take their first lead of the afternoon with 15:37 left in the first half.
- Fortunately, Rockford wasted little time retaking the lead. The Regents promptly went on an 11-2 run of their own, to pull back in front 20-12. Brandon Emerick led the way with five points, while TJ Lacey added four and DJ bonds chipped in two.
- With Rockford now holding a six-point lead and less than nine minutes left in the first, the Regents scored 17 of the next 19 points to blow the game wide open. Zac Centers scored eight of Rockford's 17 points over that span, including knocking down a pair of triples, to help put his team out in front 39-18.
- The Eagles were able to trim the Regent lead back down to 12 points, but Brandon Emerick drained a three-pointer right before the half, to give his team a 47-32 advantage heading into the break.
- Rockford shot the ball extremely well in the first half, going 20-of-37 (54%) from the floor. TJ Lacey and Brandon Emerick led the way, shooting 6-for-8 and 5-for-7 respectively.
- The second half had a similar feel to it early on, with each team scoring in spurts.
- The Eagles would strike first and cut the Regent lead back down to just 11 at the 14:48 mark.
- With the Regents now leading by 12 and 13:15 left in regulation, Rockford scored the next seven points to take a commanding 66-47 advantage. Three different Regents scored during the run, led by three points from Brandon Emerick.
- Rockford would eventually push its lead to a game-high 22 points, at 80-58, following a Nick Phillips made free throw with 7:43 left in the game.
- However, things would get a little dicey from that moment on, as Judson outscored Rockford 26-10 over the next 6:37 to pull back within six points.
- Fortunately, the Regents remained calm and got a bucket from Jaden Bell and four clutch free throws from Brandon Emerick to seal the 96-87 win.
- Brandon Emerick led all scorers with a season-high 27 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-8 from three-point range, and went a perfect 7-of-7 at the free throw line. He also added 4 assists, 3 rebounds and 1 steal.
- DJ Bonds finished with a season-high 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting. He also had 6 rebounds and 1 assist.
- TJ Lacey tallied 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting and a perfect 4-of-4 at the free throw line. He rounded out his evening with 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists.
- Jaden Bell recorded his first collegiate double-double with 15 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. He also had 6 assists and 1 block.
- Zac Centers finished with a season-high 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting and grabbed 4 rebounds.

The RU men's basketball team returns home on Saturday, November 27 to face Finlandia University. Tip-off is set for 2 PM in the Seaver Center.
