ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's basketball team (0-6, 0-6 NACC) lost a close game 74-67 to Dominican University Stars (2-1, 2-1 NACC). The Regents showed promise in tonight's matchup with the Stars. Rockford competed hard and was in the game till the very end. It came down to free-throws, as Dominican (16-28) out-shot Rockford (8-12) from the line. The Regents out-shot the Stars from the field and was one three-pointer off of the Stars mark. Amber Krause led the way for the Regents with 18 points and only three rebounds away from having herself a double-double. There were two other Regents that came through big with a multi-point game, Naynay Clark recording 15 points and Neve Yerk with 13 points.
- Dominican captured the lead quick with an 11-4 point scoring run to be up 11-4 at the 4:33 mark in the first quarter.
- Kiara Stevens and Amber Krause knocked down huge three-pointers to start a 10-3 scoring run for the Regents to make it an even game at 14-14 with 2:14 left in the first quarter. Neve Yerk added a jumper and Amber Krause continued to stay strong with a layup to end the scoring run.
- At the 1:07 mark in the first quarter, Neve Yerk drained a three-pointer to put the Regents ahead by a point, 17-16.
- Dominican closed out the first quarter with a pair of free-throws to regain the lead, 18-17.
- Rockford went on a 6-1 scoring run to start the second quarter and gain a 23-19 lead with 7:22 left in the second quarter. Amber Krause nailed a jumper and had a layup to contribute four points to the scoring run, while Jocelyn Callahan got in on the action with a layup.
- Unfortunately, the lead would be short lived for the Regents as the Stars went on a 14-7 scoring run to lead 33-30 going into halftime.
- The Stars increased its lead to 50-34 with a 17-4 scoring run that ended at the 3:52 mark in the third quarter.
- Rockford answered with a 7-3 scoring run to close out the third quarter down 53-41. Kiara Stevens hit a three-pointer for the Regents, along with Neve Yerk's layup and Naynay Clark's jumper.
- The Regents opened up the fourth quarter with a 9-3 scoring run do bring it within six points, down 56-50 with 6:57 remaining in the game. Amber Krause got things rolling with another three-point bucket and a layup, followed by a jumper from Neve Yerk and a layup by Naynay Clark.
- Rockford made a push towards the end to bring the game within three points, 66-63. The Regents had a commanding 9-0 scoring run with baskets coming from Naynay Clark and Au'Drina Terhune.
- However, it was not enough to prevent the Stars from going on to win 74-67.
- Amber Krause recorded a season high 18 points and 7 rebounds.
- Naynay Clark tallied a season high 15 points with 7 assists, 2 blocks, a steal and a rebound.
- Neve Yerk had a season high 13 points with 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 blocks and 3 steals.
- Au'Drina Terhune added 7 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists.
The Regents return to the court on Friday, February 26 at home against Benedictine University. Tip-off is set for 7 PM.
