ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University men's volleyball team (0-4, 0-3 NACC) was defeated 3-0 by Concordia University Chicago (1-2, 1-2 NACC). Rockford put up a great fight in the first set, but the Cougars took control of the match in the last two sets, holding a commanding lead. Jett Stewart broke another RU men's volleyball record with five service aces in tonight's match. Unfortunately, Concordia Chicago took set one 25-23, set two 25-19 and set three 25-13.
- The match got off to a good start for the Regents, leading 6-4 from a 6-2 run with kills coming from Connor McNear, Matthew Seger and Jeremy Weaver.
- After a back-and-forth battle, the Cougars got ahead of the Regents 12-10.
- Concordia Chicago increased its lead to 16-12, but Rockford came back to tie the set with a 4-0 run.
- However, the Cougars regained the lead 24-22 after battling with the Regents.
- Nathan Vana added a kill to bring Rockford within a point, though it would not be enough as Concordia Chicago went on to win the first set 25-23.
- The second set started much like the first with Rockford taking a 5-2 advantage.
- The Cougars answered with 11-3 and 6-1 back-to-back runs to take a sizeable lead over the Regents.
- With Concordia Chicago now leading 19-9, Rockford tried to chip away but to no avail, dropping the second set 25-19.
- The Cougars opened the third set on an 11-2 run and never looked back, winning the third set 25-13 and the match 3-0.
- Jett Stewart becomes the RU leader for most service aces in a match with 5. He also recorded 14 assists, 6 digs and a kill.
- Nathan Vana recorded 5 kills, 9 digs and an ace.
- Connor McNear tallied 4 kills, 2 aces, a dig and a block.
- Matthew Seger added 4 digs, 3 kills, 3 blocks and an assist.
The RU men's volleyball team returns to the floor Tuesday, March 2 at Benedictine University. The match has a scheduled start time of 7 PM.
