ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's volleyball team (0-4, 0-2 NACC) dropped both matches of its doubleheader 3-0 Saturday afternoon to the Dominican University Stars (4-0, 2-0 NACC). Rockford played a solid first match keeping every set close, (25-19, 25-19, 25-22). The Regents struggled in the second match, falling 3-0 to the Stars (25-13, 25-13, 25-22).
Match 1 (25-19, 25-19, 25-22)
- Rockford came out strong in the first set, taking a 6-5 advantage with the help of Della Crain's two kills.
- After the score was tied at 8-8, the Regents took a 10-8 lead from back-to-back aces by Jessica Witkowski.
- However, Dominican went on a 9-3 run to take a 17-13 lead.
- Both teams traded points, but despite Rockford's effort, it was not enough as Dominican took the first set 25-19.
- Set two started similar to set one with the Regents taking a 6-3 lead. Leading the Regents scoring efforts were two kills from Della Crain and a service ace coming from Casey Sheetz.
- Both teams kept it close with back-and-forth scoring, leading to the set being tied 12 different times.
- Unfortunately, after Rockford broke a 17-17 tie to lead 18-17, the Stars went on a 7-0 run eventually going on to win the second set 25-19.
- Rockford came out strong again in the third set, up 6-4 with kills coming from Della Crain and Nicole Eggers.
- With the game tied at 10-10, Dominican went on a 7-0 run to take a 17-10 lead.
- The Regents came right back scoring seven unanswered points to tie the set at 17-17. Casey Sheetz contributed with a service ace, while Della Crain added a kill.
- Rockford battled at the end trading points with Dominican, but it was not enough dropping the third set 25-22 and the match 3-0.
Match 2 (25-13, 25-13, 25-22)
- In the first set, the Regents quickly found itself down 14-5.
- Kills by Nicole Eggers and Taylor Sagen tried to preserve the set for Rockford, but Dominican was too dominant, taking the first set, 25-13.
- Rockford started the second set with an 8-4 run with kills coming from Della Crain, Nicole Eggers and Amelia Rehberg. Jennifer Quintas added two service aces to propel the Regents forward.
- Dominican answered with a 12-0 run, putting the Regents behind 16-8.
- Rockford wasn't able to recover, falling 25-13 in the second set.
- The Regents played exceptionally well in the third set, keeping pace with the Stars without falling behind more than three points. Through this stretch Della Crain had four kills, Alyssa Ashford recorded two kills, Jacey Wilson added two kills and Jaszmin Minneyfield chipped in with a kill.
- Although Rockford played its best volleyball of the season, Dominican was able to squeeze out the third set win 25-22, and take the match 3-0.

The Rockford University women's volleyball team returns to the court on Sunday, March 14 for a doubleheader at Dominican University. The match has a scheduled start time of 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
