ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University men's volleyball team (0-6, 0-5 NACC) fell Friday night in four sets to the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks (1-4, 1-4 NACC). Rockford fought hard, winning the third set (30-28) to force a fourth set. However, the Regents could not keep the momentum, losing 3-1 to the Scarlet Hawks (25-22, 25-15, 30-28, 25-16). Despite the loss, the Regents played well on both sides of the ball. Three Regents achieved double-digit kills including James Davenport with 13 kills to tie his school record for most kills in a match. Jett Stewart had another record-setting night, breaking his previously set school record for most assists in a match with 36 tonight. Stewart also moves into second place for most digs in a match with 10 in tonight's match.
- The opening set was close early on, as Rockford tied it at 5-5. Rockford tallied a trio of kills over that span, two from James Davenport and one from Nathan Vana along with a service ace from Davenport.
- The Scarlet Hawks rallied for a 7-2 run to increase its lead over the Regents, 12-7.
- After a back-and-forth battle, Rockford pulled itself within three points at 24-21 with a kill from Matthew Seger.
- Although, it wasn't enough as Illinois Tech went on to take set one, 25-22.
- Set two got off to a similar start when Rockford tied it at 7-7 after a kill from Connor McNear.
- However, later on in the set, the Scarlet Hawks scored eight straight points to take a 23-13 advantage.
- The Regents were not able to recover, dropping the second set 25-15.
- Illinois Tech jumped out to a 14-11 lead in the third set, aided by a couple of 3-0 runs.
- The Regents answered with a 12-4 run led by kills from Nathan Vana, Jett Stewart, Connor McNear and James Davenport.
- The Scarlet Hawks tied it at 24-24 after a 6-1 run.
- Set three was tied four more times to force a continuation of the set until Rockford took the 30-28 victory.
- Rockford opened up the third set leading Illinois Tech 6-4.
- The Regents couldn't get much started, eventually falling behind and dropping the fourth set to the Scarlet Hawks 25-16 and the match 3-1.
- Jett Stewart broke his previous school record of 33 assists with 36 assists tonight and is now second in the RU record books for most digs in a match with 10 digs on the night.
- James Davenport tied his previously set school record with 13 kills in tonight's match.
- Nathan Vana recorded a season-high 12 kills which put him in second all-time for kills in a match for RU. Vana also had 6 digs.
- Connor McNear tallied a season-high 10 kills with 2 digs.
The RU men's volleyball team returns to the court on Friday, March 12 against MSOE. The match has a scheduled start time of 7 PM at MSOE.
