RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Rockford University women's volleyball team's (0-13, 0-10 NACC) season came to an end on Thursday night, with a 3-1 loss to the top-seeded Dominican University Stars (12-3, 8-2 NACC) in the NACC South Division Tournament Semifinals. Rockford saved its best match of the season for its final contest of the year, as the Regents gave the Stars all they could handle throughout the evening. Unfortunately, Dominican proved to be too much, winning the match 25-15, 25-14, 23-25, 25-15 to advance to the NACC South Division Tournament Championship Game later this week against Concordia Chicago.
- Although Rockford never led in the first set, the Regents hung with the Stars early on.
- Della Crain scored Rockford's first two points, as the Regents trailed just 3-2 in the opening moments. The Regents and Stars continued to trade points over the next several minutes, with Rockford still trailing 7-6 after a kill from Casey Sheetz.
- Unfortunately, Dominican then used an 11-3 run to take an 18-9 lead. Rockford was never able to get any closer than 8 points the remainder of the way and dropped the first set 25-15.
- The second set got off to a rough start with Rockford quickly falling behind 12-2.
- The Regents were able to get back within 7 at one point, but ultimately fell 25-14, to give Dominican a 2-0 advantage.
- The third set was an entirely different story though, as the Regents quickly took their first lead of the match.
- Rockford opened the set on a 7-3 run led by a trio of kills from Della Crain.
- The Regents would build their lead up to as many as six points at 12-6, before the Stars began to mount a comeback.
- Dominican used a 13-6 run of its own and took its first lead of the set at 19-18.
- However, Rockford was not intimidated and scored the next two points off a Della Crain kill and a Jessica Witkowski service ace to retake the lead.
- With the set now tied at 21-21, Rockford closed on 4-2 run to take the third set 25-23 and cut the Dominican lead down to 2-1.
- The fourth set went back-and-forth in the opening moments with Rockford holding a 4-3 lead after a kill from Alyssa Ashford and a Jessica Witkowski service ace.
- Unfortunately, the Stars promptly went on a 12-1 run to take a commanding 15-5 advantage.
- Rockford was unable to get any closer than 8 points the remainder of the way, dropping the fourth set 25-15 and the match 3-1.
- Della Crain finished with a team-high 12 kills, 2 digs and 1 assist.
- Nicole Eggers hit the ball extremely well on Thursday. Eggers tallied 7 kills on just 16 attempts with 0 errors and a hitting percentage of 0.438. She also had an assist, an ace, a solo block and a block assist.
- Jennifer Quintas tallied a team-high 13 digs and 2 assists.
- Casey Sheetz added a team-high 13 assists, 7 digs, 3 aces and 2 kills.
