LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Rockford University softball team (15-11, 5-5 NACC) split Saturday nights doubleheader with the Benedictine University Eagles (16-11, 7-3 NACC). Rockford's win in game two was the first time Rockford won against Benedictine since 2006 and the first win over Benedictine since joining the NACC. Game one did not go the Regent's way with the Eagles scoring late in the game to take game one 13-5. However, game two was a much different story with an outstanding pitching performance by Mikayla Seay to lead the Regents to a 3-1 victory.
Game 1: Benedictine 13 Rockford 5
- Benedictine was the first to get on the board in the second inning scoring two runs from a sacrifice fly to center field and a single to shortstop.
- The Regents jumped ahead with a big inning in the bottom of the second. Michaela Spanbauer singled down the left-field line to score Breanna Collins. Grtechen Schrubbe and Annaka Bartz roped back-to-back doubles to score Jocelyn Callahan, Michaela Spanbauer and Gretchen Schrubbe taking a 4-2 lead.
- The Eagles tacked on a run in the third inning with a double to left field to trail 4-3.
- Rockford increased its lead in the bottom of the fourth when Emily Cox singled to right field to score Gretchen Schrubbe.
- Unfortunately, the Eagles fought back scoring four runs in the fifth, two runs in the sixth and four runs in the seventh while holding the Regents to take game one 13-5.
Game 2: Rockford 3 Benedictine 1
- Mikayla Seay dominated for the Regents in game two against the Eagles, setting the pace early with a three-up-three-down first inning.
- Rockford took control in the bottom of the first with back-to-back doubles by Emily Cox and Mikayla Seay. Emily Cox came across to score from Mikayla Seay's double.
- With great pitching and stellar defense, Rockford clung to a 1-0 lead holding Benedictine to four scoreless innings.
- The Eagles finally put up a run in the fifth inning from a double to tie the game 1-1.
- The Regents added two runs in the bottom of the sixth with a single by Mikayla Seay to score Annaka Bartz and a sacrifice fly by Breanna Collins to score Jessica Kearns.
- Rockford held the Eagles in the top of the seventh to win game two 3-1 for the first win over the Eagles since 2006.

- Mikayla Seay pitched a complete game only giving up a run and walking one batter. Seay also went 2-3 at the plate with a double and 2 RBI's.
- Emily Cox went a season-high 3-3 with 2 doubles and a run scored.
- Annaka Bartz went 1-3 with a run scored.
The RU softball team returns to the diamond on Sunday, April 18 at Benedictine University. First pitch of the doubleheader is at 12 PM.
