Cougars Tame Regents in Season Finale

RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Rockford University men's soccer team (0-6-2, 0-5-2 NACC) fell 3-0 on the road Sunday afternoon to the Concordia University Chicago Cougars (1-7-1, 1-4-1 NACC). Rockford had multiple chances to score, but was unable to convert them. The Regents finished with 11 shots in the match and had six shots on goal, but unfortunately were shutout for the seventh time this season. With the loss, Rockford will fall just short of qualifying for the NACC South Division Tournament.

  • Rockford came out aggressive offensively and recorded a pair of shot attempts in the first few minutes of the match. One of those attempts came from Marcos Morales Hernandez, who tallied the match's first shot on goal in the third minute.
  • The Cougars answered right back with two quick shot attempts in the sixth minute of the match. Gianni Gaskins took the second of the two shots and found the back of the net to give CUC a quick 1-0 lead.
  • The Regents continued to pepper the net in the first half with four more shots, including a trio of shots on goal. Joshua De Avila had two of the three shots on goal, with the other coming from Javier Palacios
  • Unfortunately, Concordia keeper Nicholas Pasut recorded saves on all three attempts, as CUC took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
  • Concordia Chicago extended its lead to 2-0 less than three minutes into the second half. Julian Granzetto found the upper left corner of the goal in the 47th minute, to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead.
  • Pedro Acosta recorded the Regents' final two shots on goal late in the second half, but unfortunately, came up empty both times.
  • CUC then tacked on one final goal in the 87th minute from Fabian Aranda to seal the 3-0 victory.
