VERONA, Wis. - The Rockford University baseball team (6-9) fell twice on the road Saturday in non-conference action to the Edgewood College Eagles (6-10). Rockford dropped the opener 12-11 before being shutout 10-0 in the nightcap. It was a frustrating day for the Regents, as they held an early 8-1 lead and then led 11-10 late in the game, but unfortunately, were unable to hold on. The second game was all Edgewood, as Rockford mustered just four hits and was shutout for the first time this season.
Game 1
- Game one got off to a great start, with the Regents scoring two runs in the top of the first inning.
- Hunter Fiorito and Jordin Lee got things started with back-to-back singles to begin the game.
- One batter later, Jared Herzog crushed a two-run double to left, scoring Fiorito and Lee, and giving Rockford a quick 2-0 lead.
- Rockford seemed to take control of the game after scoring six runs in the top of the second and taking a commanding 8-0 advantage.
- Jared Herzog drove in the first run of the inning and his third of the game, with an RBI into right center.
- A couple of batters later, Phil Hyland singled back up the middle, scoring Herzog and making it a 4-0 Regent lead.
- After a walk loaded the bases, Ryan Smith was hit by a pitch, forcing in Christian Garcia, and giving Rockford a 5-0 lead.
- The Regents tacked on one more run via a wild pitch, before Zach Hunter knocked in the final two runs of the inning on a two-run single into left.
- Unfortunately, Eagles' bats woke up over the next several innings.
- Edgewood scored one in the second, one in the fourth, one in the fifth and three in the sixth to pull with two, at 8-6.
- The Eagles would then take their first lead of the game after scoring four unearned runs in the seventh, to pull in front 10-8.
- However, Rockford would not go down without a fight. The Regents answered right back with three runs in the top of the eighth to retake the lead.
- Christian Garcia got things started with an RBI double to left field, scoring Hunter Fiorito, and putting runners on second and third with just one out.
- After a walk loaded the bases, Rockford would tie the game on a wild pitch and then take the lead on a sacrifice fly from Iszak Mestas.
- Unfortunately, Edgewood was able to retake the lead in the bottom of the eighth with a pair of runs off three hits.
- Rockford was unable to get anything going in the ninth and dropped game one by a final score of 12-11.
Game 2
- Game two did not go well for Rockford, as the Regents were held to just four hits and did not score a run.
- Meanwhile, the Eagles used two big innings to score nine of their ten runs.
- Edgewood struck for four runs in the third off just one hit but took advantage of three walks, a hit batsman and a wild pitch.
- The Eagles then added five unearned runs in the sixth and took a commanding 9-0 lead.
- Edgewood would then score the winning run in the bottom of the eighth on a wild pitch and secure a sweep of the season series.

The RU baseball team returns home on Tuesday, April 6 to face Maranatha Baptist University. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3 PM at Rivets Stadium.
