ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University football team led after the first half of the 2022 homecoming game, but ultimately gave up 28 second half points, losing to the CUW Falcons 42-21. Both offenses were very similar by the end of the contest in terms of yards, but Rockford gave up a total of 108 yards in penalties, awarding the Falcons 3 first downs from those penalties as well. The Regents offense had a strong first half, especially
Jaelen Ray, who threw 3 touchdown passes, but could not move the ball the rest of the game. Concordia-Wisconsin ran out the clock and scored on its final drive in the fourth, taking over on downs with little time on the clock shortly after to earn the victory 42-14.
- Rockford didn't get on the board after its first drive, but a fumble on the punt put the Regents in perfect position to score at the CUW 21 yard-line. Jaelen Ray completed a pass shortly after to Joey Owens for touchdown number one of the contest to give RU the 7-0 lead.
- CUW came back down the field and managed to score in under four minutes to bring the score back to 7-7.
- The Falcons got the ball back thanks to a blocked punt near the Regent's goal line, which Concordia-Wisconsin ran in shortly after from 3 yards out to take a 14-7 lead.
- RU opened the second quarter with a nearly nine-minute drive, 95 yards, capped off with another Jaelen Ray to Joey Owens connection for a touchdown to even the game at 14.
- Before the end of the half, Rockford managed to put together another long drive, this one for 92 yards over 12 plays, finished off with a third touchdown pass from Jaelen Ray, this one to Jamon Carter-Grady from two yards out.
- The Regents were looking strong, headed into the half up 21-14.
- Coming out of the half, Rockford couldn't get anything going offensively, and the defense failed to hold back the CUW offensive attack. The Falcons put up 28 unanswered points over the next two quarters, running away with the game. The Regents didn't answer, losing to Concordia-Wisconsin, 42-28.
- Jaelen Ray hit 82 percent of his targets for 237 yards and 3 touchdowns.
- Kyle Thompson was a dynamic back all afternoon, he rushed for 78 yards while also catching a team-high 12 passes for 55 yards.
- Joey Owens secured 9 catches for 67 yards and 2 touchdowns.
- Curtis Hosea finished with the team high in tackles with 9.
- Cory Johnson and Garrick McGregor each finished with the team-high in solo tackles with 5.
