Clark's Double-Double Helps Regents to First Win of the Season

ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's basketball team recorded its first win of the season on Friday night, 65-53 over the Mount Mary Blue Angels. The Regents pulled out the win thanks to a strong defensive showing with 15 steals that led to a 13-0 advantage in fast break points. RU also controlled the rebound category and had advantages in second chance points (14-5) and points in the paint (38-22).

  • Mount Mary got the scoring started with a three-point basket, but Rockford went on a 12-0 run with the score at 5-4 to take a 16-5 lead. Kyla Wilkerson hit a pair of threes and a layup to lead the Regent offense, while Kennedy Gaddis and Katie Paredes each added a basket.
  • Mount Mary and Rockford traded baskets leading up to the end of the quarter with the Blue Angels scoring five and Rockford tallying four more to bring the score to 20-10 after one.
  • The Blue Angels scored the first seven points of the second quarter before the Regents got on the board. Kyla Wilkerson hit a three-pointer that started a 9-2 Rockford run pushing the lead back to 10 points.
  • Rockford extended the lead by one more after a free throw by Mount Mary led to a Katie Paredes put-back layup at the buzzer to take a 33-22 lead into halftime.
  • RU and Mount Mary traded baskets to start the second half with Rockford in front during the run 10-6. Tyra Clark led the scoring for Rockford with six.
  • With the Regents up by 15, Mount Mary didn't back down, going on an 11-0 run to pull the game within four points at 43-39. This forced a Rockford timeout with less than a minute left in the quarter.
  • The timeout slowed down the Blue Angels momentum, as RU grabbed a pair of baskets before the end of the period, going up 47-39.
  • The fourth quarter had points coming fast for both sides, Mount Mary leading the run 10-8. Tyra Clark continued to contribute with four points during the run to keep RU in the lead at 55-49.
  • After the first three minutes of the quarter the scoring slowed back down, only a basket for each side over the next four minutes of play. Rockford was still in the driver's seat with three minutes to play.
  • Coming out of a Mount Mary timeout, Audrina Terhune hit a crucial three-pointer to extend the lead to seven points with 2:33 to play.
  • Up by seven with less than a minute to play, the Blue Angels put pressure on the Regents, trying to claw back into the contest, but ultimately fell to Rockford 65-53.

  • Tyra Clark finished with a double-double, scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. She also had 4 assists and 5 steals, tying her season-high in both categories.
  • Audrina Terhune finished with 17 points of her own along with 6 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal, and the only block of the game.
  • Kyla Wilkerson shot well from beyond the arc, she finished with 15 points including 9 of those from the three-point line.
  • Katie Paredes just missed out on the double-double. She had 8 points and 9 rebounds, but led the team in steals with 6, doubling her previous season-high of 3.
