RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Rockford University women's basketball team (12-9, 8-7 NACC) earned a hard-fought 61-59 road win on Tuesday evening over Concordia University Chicago (6-14, 5-10 NACC). The win gives the Regents their first regular season series sweep of the Cougars since the 2010-11 season and secures a home game in the opening round of the NACC Tournament for the first time in program history. As has been the case in a lot of Rockford's games this season, tonight's contest was decided in the closing moments. Although the Regents never trailed in the fourth quarter, the Cougars tied it twice in the final minute, with the final such occasion coming with ten seconds left. Fortunately, one second later
Anaya Davis drew a foul and then calmly knocked down both free throws to seal the victory.
- The Regents built an early seven-point lead on the heels of 9-2 run midway through the first quarter. Anaya Davis led the way with five of the nine points, including an and-one three-point play to cap off the run and give Rockford a 15-8 lead.
- However, the Cougars hit back-to-back triples to close the quarter and make it a 15-14 game heading into the second.
- CUC continued to build upon its momentum throughout the remainder of the half, outscoring Rockford 15-6 in the second quarter and taking a 29-21 lead into the break.
- Things continued to go downhill in the opening moments of the third quarter, with Concordia Chicago building its lead up to a game-high 13 points at the 8:37 mark.
- With the Regents now trailing 39-28, Rockford scored 13 straight points over the next five minutes to retake the lead. Four different Regents scored over that stretch, led by five from Anaya Davis and three each from Natalie Posadas and Makayla Ashford.
- The lead bounced back and forth for the remainder of the quarter with Rockford holding a 43-42 edge heading into the fourth, thanks to a pair of Natalie Posadas made free throws to close out the period.
- Rockford would then open the fourth with five straight points, capped off by a Natalie Posadas triple to make a 48-42 Regent lead.
- However, CUC was slowly able to chip away until the Cougars eventually tied the game at 57-57 with 54 seconds left in regulation.
- Audrina Terhune responded on Rockford's next possession with a made layup to put her team back in front 59-57 with 36 seconds left.
- The back and forth affair continued with Concordia Chicago knocking down a pair of free throws with ten seconds left to once again tie the game.
- Following a Regent timeout, Anaya Davis was fouled and then stepped to the line with a chance to put her team back in front. Davis calmly drained both free throws to give Rockford a 61-59 advantage.
- The Cougars had one final chance to tie or win the game, but their shot was off the mark, and Rockford held on for the win.
- Anaya Davis finished with a game-high 26 points and 17 rebounds. She now has 18 double-doubles this season.
- Audrina Terhune tallied 18 points, 3 steals, 2 rebounds and 2 assists.
- Makayla Ashford added 7 points, 2 steals and a rebound in just 9 minutes off the bench.
- Natalie Posadas had 6 points, 5 steals, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 block.
