ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University football team (1-0) battled through the Beloit Buccaneers (0-1) and lightning delays on its way to a week one victory, 41-14. The game hardly began before a lightning storm delayed the contest for more than two hours, leaving the game at the 2:22 mark of the first quarter. Despite the lightning, Rockford's offense continued production, including
Jaelen Ray, throwing four touchdown passes for 462 yards and only three incomplete passes on the way to the win.
- Rockford started off the scoring, Jaelen Ray threw a touchdown pass to Maurice Williams on the teams second drive of the game to make it 7-0.
- The Regents built the lead further. Jaelen Ray threw a second touchdown pass, completing a 35-yard pass to Emani Johnson to make it 14-0.
- After the touchdown and extra point, both teams headed into the locker rooms at the 2:22 mark of the first quarter due to lightning in the area.
- More than two hours later, both teams took the field for Beloit's drive, where they capitalized on a four-yard rush to get them into the endzone to make it 14-7.
- It took 3 plays on Rockford's next drive to get into the endzone. When two plays went backwards putting the Regents in a 3rd and 14 situation. Jaelen Ray wound up and fired a deep pass to a wide open Da'Quan McIntosh for a 78-yard touchdown pass to put Rockford up 21-14.
- The last drive wouldn't be the last time the two hooked up for a long pass, the very next Regent's drive, the two once again connected, this time for a 40-yard touchdown pass to extend the lead 28-7.
- Stopping Beloit again, the Rockford offense took over, charging down the field once again until the senior Carl Jones took a handoff the final seven yards into the endzone for a touchdown. RU continued to run up the score 35-7.
- After halftime and a quiet third quarter, A determined Jack Carey took four straight rushing attempts on his way to the endzone to record yet another Rockford touchdown. A blocked point after attempt put the score at 41-7.
- Beloit College took the ball the next drive and made it to the endzone to put the score at 41-14 in the fourth quarter.
- The Regents ran the clock down to end the game, completing the week one victory.
- Jaelen Ray completed 32 of 35 passes for 462 yards and 4 touchdowns.
- Da'Quan McIntosh caught two passes for 118 yards, both going for touchdowns.
- Joey Owens led in receptions with 9, recording 76 yards.
