ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University men's basketball team had a trio of Regents record a double-double in the team's 92-88 victory over Lakeland University. The Regents were in control of the game for much of the afternoon; however, Lakeland was able to make it interesting late, but it was too little too late for the Muskies.
Micah Swanson and
Kevin Diemer each reached at least 20 and 10 rebounds, while
Noody Lacey hit season-highs in points (15) and rebounds (12).
- Lakeland and Rockford battled, forcing five different ties in the first 9:44 of the game. Kevin Diemer was dominating, scoring eight of the Regents points over that span as the score hit 20-18 in Rockford's favor.
- A 20-10 run by Rockford pushed the lead to 12 points, and Kevin Diemer continued his scoring spree with another 9 points during this run. RU held a comfortable lead at 40-28.
- Lakeland rallied for a 7-4 run to end the half, but the Regents were in front after one, 44-35.
- Neither side gave an inch to begin half number two, trading baskets back-and-forth. Zac Centers and Ashton Singleton gave RU an expanded lead with back-to-back three pointers during that time.
- Rockford did a great job holding Lakeland at a distance because the Muskies didn't get within single-digits for over seven minutes of play. Noody Lacey with four points and Kevin Diemer with three led the Regents charge to a 72-62 score.
- An even 20-20 run over the next 5:24 of play had the Regents comfortably in front with ten seconds remaining in the game.
- Two straight turnovers gave Lakeland the ball back twice, where they converted two-straight threes and was only four points behind at 92-88. Unfortunately for Lakeland, it was too little, too late, and the clock expired, giving Rockford the win after a scary end to the contest.
- Kevin Diemer led Rockford in scoring with 22 points, including 17 in the first half. He completed the double-double with a team-high 13 rebounds and 4 assists.
- Micah Swanson scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to also record a double-double. Swanson also had 2 blocks and a steal.
- Noody Lacey recorded season highs in points (15) and rebounds (12) to get his first double-double of the season while also recording a season-high 6 assists.
- Zac Centers added 4 three pointers and ended with 13 points and 6 rebounds with 2 blocks.
