ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University men's soccer team took an impressive 1-0 win over the St. Norbert College Green Knights in a Saturday afternoon conference showdown. Although the Green Knights led in nearly every category, the Regents were able to keep the game tight and eventually cash in down the stretch. St. Norbert outshot Rockford 16-6 and 8-3 on shots on goal, but both teams were held off the scoreboard for the majority of the match.
Andrew Roth finally broke the scoreless tie in the 82nd minute to give the Regents the late lead, a lead Rockford would hold onto for the stunning 1-0 victory. This win over the Green Knights marks the first-ever win over St. Norbert in program history.
- Regent keeper Wesley Pritzlaff was outstanding throughout the match and he was tested early as the Green Knights fired two shots on goal within the first 13 minutes, but both attempts were corralled by the Regent keeper.
- The Green Knight offense continued to apply pressure, but the Regent defense was able to hold strong and keep the match a scoreless battle.
- Rockford had an opportunity to break the stalemate late in the first half with a shot by Javier Palacios, but his attempt went wide, and after one half the score remained tied at zero.
- The Green Knights again threatened early in the half with two quick shots on goal, but Wesley Pritzlaff was able to save both St. Norbert threats.
- The match continued to be deadlocked at a scoreless tie, with both defenses holding true until Rockford was able to break the scoreless tie on a goal from Andrew Roth after a pass from Emilio Lopez set him up for the score.
- Rockford was able to get two more saves from Wesley Pritzlaff late in the match with St. Norbert looking to equalize, but the Regents were able to hold on for the impressive 1-0 shutout.
- Andrew Roth provided the game-winning goal, the first of his career and his first goal of the season.
- Wesley Pritzlaff provided 8 saves and delivered his second straight shutout.
- Emilio Lopez picked up his first assist of the season.
- Javier Palacios had 2 shots and 1 shot on goal.
