AURORA, Ill. - The Rockford University football team fell 69-0 on the road Saturday afternoon to #16 Aurora University. The Spartans scored at least two touchdowns in every quarter and blew the game wide open with a 27-point second quarter. Aurora racked up 700 yards of total offense and averaged 10.2 yards per play, compared to 138 yards of total offense and an average of 2.3 yards per play for the Regents. Saturday marked the first time the Regents have been shutout in a game since October 10, 2015 (34-0 vs. Hope).
- Rockford struggled to get much of anything going throughout the afternoon. The Regents only had 6 first downs and 83 yards of total offense in the first half and 3 first downs and 55 yards of offense in the second half.Â
- Aurora found the end zone on its first six possessions of the game to take a 41-0 lead with 6:33 left in the second quarter.Â
- The Regents had their best chance to score in the closing minutes of the first half.
- Bernard Johnson intercepted a Spartan pass and returned it to the Aurora 10-yard line to set up first and goal with 1:49 left in the half.Â
- Unfortunately, Jaelen Ray's pass on third and goal was intercepted in the end zone to end the Regent threat.Â
- The Spartans began the second half with a 4-play, 51-yard touchdown drive to extend their lead to 48-0.Â
- Rockford had one more chance to get on the scoreboard during its second possession of the third quarter.Â
- The Regents moved the ball down to as far as the Aurora 11-yard line, with biggest chunk coming on a 29-yard pass from Jaelen Ray to Blake Winters.
- Unfortunately, Rockford was intercepted for the fifth time in the game to once again end the drive.Â
- Aurora then went on to score touchdowns on its next three drives to salt away the 69-0 win.
