ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's soccer team fell 2-1 to the Lakeland University Muskies in a Sunday afternoon conference meeting. The match was a battle, with both defenses battling with each other's attack to keep the game close. The Muskies finally broke the scoreless tie in the 40th minute and eventually scored again in the 60th minute to take a 2-0 lead. Rockford was able to cut the Muskies lead in half with a
Daisy Martinez goal in the 75th minute, but the Regents could not get anything else going offensively for the remainder of the match. This allowed Lakeland to hold on for the 2-1 win.
- The Muskies fired three shots on goal within the first 20 minutes of the match, but Regent keeper Kaeleigh Taylor was there to save all three and keep the match scoreless.
- The Regents looked to take the lead with a shot on goal in the 35th minute by Mia Ostler but her shot was saved by the Muskies' keeper and kept it a 0-0 match.
- Lakeland broke the scoreless tie in the 40th minute with a goal by Marlen Reyes to give the Muskies the lead late in the first half, which they would eventually take into the half.
- The Regents fired four different shots on goal within the first 9 minutes of the second half, with one each by Mia Ostler, Jasmine Landberg, Lucie Mapendano and Daisy Martinez, but all four were stopped by the Lakeland keeper.
- Lakeland added to its lead with another goal in the 60th minute, this time by Malaya Sperber to make it a 2-0 Muskies lead.
- Rockford was finally able to get on the board after Daisy Martinez found the back of the net for the Regents in the 75th minute to cut the Lakeland lead in half at 2-1.
- The Regents fired one shot on goal before the match's end, but could not get anything else going and the Muskies were able to hold off Rockford and take the 2-1 win.
- Daisy Martinez scored the lone goal of the match, picking up her 9th of the season, also firing 3 shots and 2 shots on goal.
