MADISON, Wis. - The Rockford University men's basketball team completed the season-series sweep of Edgewood College on Saturday afternoon with a 79-74 victory. Statistically, the game was pretty much dead even. Edgewood was able to keep the game close thanks to a 19-8 advantage in points off turnovers. Fortunately, Rockford shot the ball extremely well, connecting on 50% of its shots for the sixth time this season. The win moves the Regents into a tie for fourth place in the NACC with Concordia University Wisconsin, who Rockford defeated earlier in the year. Finishing the season in one of the top four spots in the conference would mean that Rockford would host a first round game in the NACC Tournament.
- The Eagles used a 6-0 run over a span of a minute and a half to take an early 9-3 lead.
- Fortunately, Rockford scored the next 7 points, capped off by a Kevin Diemer triple, to retake the lead at the 15:30 mark.
- That was the first of nine lead changes over the next 9 minutes and 29 seconds, with the final coming on yet another Kevin Diemer three-pointer with 6:01 left in the half.
- Rockford led by as many as five on two separate occasions, before ultimately taking a 36-34 lead into the break, thanks to a last second jumper by Mateo Fernandez Solari.
- After two more lead changes to begin the second half, Rockford scored 14 straight points to seemingly blow the game wide open. Rockford was 6-of-11 from the floor over that span, led by five points from Matthew Elliott. Meanwhile, Edgewood went 0-for-7 and turned the ball over 4 times as the Regents took a 52-39 lead.
- The Regents pushed their advantage to as many as 18 points on two separate occasions, with the latter coming on Matthew Elliott's fourth three-pointer of the game at the 5:02 mark.
- However, the Eagles were able to make things extremely interesting down the stretch. Edgewood outscored Rockford 25-9 from the 4:02 mark until Danny Mulcare hit a three-pointer to make it 76-74 with 25 seconds left in regulation.
- Kevin Diemer then made one-of-two free throws and was fouled after grabbing the ensuing defensive rebound, giving him a chance to salt the game away at the free throw line. He then proceeded to knock down both and secure the 79-74 win.
- Kevin Diemer finished with a game-high 28 points, 13 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal. It was Diemer's fifth double-double of the season, and he is now just 26 points away from becoming only the tenth person in program history with 1,500 career points.
- Matthew Elliott tallied a season-high 18 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and a block.
- Mateo Fernandez Solari and DeVon Oregon both provided a spark off the bench. Fernandez Solari had 9 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal. Oregon scored 7 points on a perfect 2-for-2 shooting performance.
