ROCKFORD, Ill. - Rockford University sophomore linebacker Joey Alvarez received a pair of awards on Tuesday morning. Alvarez was named both the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Week and as a linebacker on the D3football.com Team of the Week. This is his second NACC Player of the Week award in as many years and his first selection to the D3football.com Team of the Week. 

Joey Alvarez had a career day for the Regents in Saturday's blowout win at Beloit. He posted a career-high and tied Rockford's single-game record with 19 tackles, including 15 solo tacks, and 1.5 tackles for loss. Alvarez also intercepted a pass, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble which led to an RU touchdown. 

The Rockford University football team is on the road again on Saturday, September 14 at the College of St. Scholastica. Kickoff is set for 1 PM.
