Regents Come Up Just Short Against Cougars

LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Rockford University women's soccer team opened conference play with a 1-0 loss to Concordia University Chicago on Wednesday afternoon. Despite being outshot 17-11 and 8-4 on shots on goal, the Regents were able to play stout defense to keep the match close and keep a scoreless tie through the first half. Unfortunately, the Cougars were finally able to break through in the 61st minute. Rockford did battle until the end, looking for that equalizer, but CUC was able to keep the Regents off the board and walk away with the victory.

Recap Recap
  • The Cougars were able to fire four shots within the first 16 minutes of the match, with three of them going wide and one being saved by Kaeleigh Taylor to keep it a scoreless game.
  • The Regents were able to get their first shot of the match in the 17th minute with a shot from Silia Banza, but her attempt went wide.
  • The Cougars and the Regents battled, trading shots and defending off potential opportunities on each side, keeping the match knotted up going into the half.
  • It was Rockford this time who had the quick pressure to start the second half, with a shot on goal in the 49th minute by Mia Ostler and a shot on goal by Daisy Martinez in the 55th minute, but the Cougar's keeper was able to keep RU off the board.
  • CUC was finally able to break the ice with a goal in the 61st minute by Natalie Flores who was assisted by Elle Wheelock to give the Cougars the 1-0 advantage.
  • Rockford tried to quickly equalize with three shots in the next 10 minutes of play, but none of the tries were successful, keeping the Cougars in front.
  • The Regents had two more shots towards the end of the match, one by Ava Divis and one by Bianca Tovar, but unfortunately neither attempt found the back of the net and eventually the Cougars were able to hold on.
