AURORA, Ill. -- The Rockford University football team couldn't handle the Aurora University Spartans on Saturday afternoon, losing 48-0.
Gage Hugart started at quarterback for the Regents. He finished with 169 yards on 27-of-39 passing.
The ground game was never able to get rolling.
Malik Gordon led the team in rushing with 14 yards.Â
Timothy Bearden continued his productive season, catching 13 passes for 109 yards.
Jason Stanfield also added 3 catches for 25 yards.
Joey Alvarez manned the middle of the Rockford defense, leading the team with 12 tackles. He,
Napoleon Williams, and
LeTerrious Mackey all had a tackle-for-loss. Junior DB
Aaron Robertson picked off the Spartans in the third quarter.
The Spartans offense was humming from their very first drive. They marched down the field on their first two drives and didn't stop there. Aurora scored 27 second quarter points to take a 41-0 lead into the half.
The Regents only let up one touchdown in the second half, but were unable to reach the end zone themselves. 48-0 was the final.
The Regents will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 18, when they host Concordia Chicago at 1 p.m. CDT.
