ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Rockford University men's basketball team faced the Monmouth College Fighting Scots on Saturday afternoon. After tightly-contested affair, Monmouth came out on top 82-78.
Everyone in the starting five reached double digits in scoring for Rockford.
Tre Miller led the team with 21 (two off his career high) and also added 4 assists.
Cooper Jackson and
DeVon Oregon both reeled in 7 rebounds and scored 12 points.
Luke Stuckey led the team in minutes, staying on the floor for all but two minutes of the game.
Monmouth landed the first punch in this one, jumping out to an early 15-4 lead. The Scots were able to keep the Regents at bay for a good chunk of the first half, leading 36-19 with under six minutes to go.
A barrage of threes from Stuckey and
Kamren Hogan surged the Regents back into the game. They took all the momentum into the half, only trailing 43-37.
The second period was back and forth till the very end. The Regents tied the game at 54 with 13:28 left in the game, and just two possessions later Bell cashed a three-pointer to take the lead.Â
There were nine lead changes the rest of the way, as fouls became a large part of the story. Jackson, Oregon, Hogan, and
Cooper Buelna all fouled out in the second half.
A Stuckey three brought Rockford within two with 1:10 to go, but a steady dose of Monmouth free throws were too much to overcome. The Fighting Scots escaped with the victory.
The Regents will return to action on Thursday, Nov. 20, when they head to Illinois State for an exhibition showdown at 7 P.M. CST on ESPN+.
