ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Rockford University women's basketball team took on the Illinois Institute of Technology Scarlet Hawks on Monday evening. After a back-and-forth game, Illinois Tech was able to pull away at the end and secure a 47-41 win.
Te Simpson led the team in scoring with 16 points and also added 10 rebounds.
Katie Paredes also secured a double-double, with 10 points and 14 boards.
Nia Wilkerson led the team with 5 assists.
Both offenses were slow out of the get-go, with Illinois Tech holding a 12-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.Â
The second quarter was much of the same, as the defenses kept control. Both teams turned the ball over double-digit times as Rockford went to the half down 23-17.
The Regents got it going offensively in the third quarter. They ran out on a 12-3 run, on the back of multiple Simpson drives and putbacks. They held a 29-26 lead before the Scarlet Hawks righted the ship and took the lead back before the end of the quarter.
Free throws were a sore spot for the Regents, going 5-19 from the line in the game. Those missed opportunities hampered their comeback effort, as Illinois Tech kept them at bay and finished off the game 47-41.
The Regents will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 29, when they head to Beloit to take on the Buccaneers at 1 p.m. CST.
