ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Rockford University women's soccer team grabbed their first win of head coach
Abbey Golden's tenure over the Maranatha Baptist University Sabercats on Friday afternoon. The Regents were in control for all 90 minutes, coming out victorious 4-0.
Rockford's offense was humming from the jump. Their first goal came in the 3rd minute off the foot of a breakaway
Sofia McLaughlin.
The Regents dominated possession, controlling the ball for most of the game.
Lay Wah converted her first goal of the season in the 33rd minute off an
Ariana Moreno assist to extend the lead to 2-0.
The second half was a mirror image of the first, with Rockford outshooting Maranatha Baptist 15-1 in the period (27-5 for the game).
Courtney Murphy scored off of an excellent
Sofia McLaughlin assist in the 69th minute.Â
The Regent defense was stellar throughout the entire game, with
Lily Rose and
Natasha Toc-Monrroy switching off in the goal. Rose finished with three assists and Toc-Monrroy had one of her own.
Courtney Murphy added another goal to her tally in the 87th minute to put the nail in the coffin and seal the 4-0 win.
The Regents will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 17, with a 2:00 p.m. CDT game on the road against Concordia University Chicago.
