ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Rockford University women's basketball team fell at the hands of the Concordia University Chicago Cougars 68-54 on Wednesday evening.
Nia Wilkerson brought the scoring punch, leading the team with 17 points.
Te Simpson added another double-double to her tally (7th of the season) with 13 points and 16 rebounds, while also teasing a triple-double with a career-high seven assists.
The first quarter was tightly contested, as both teams converted near the basket and struggled to get it going from deep.Â
Down 17-14 heading into the second quarter, the Regents offense went completely stagnant, only managing six second quarter points. CUC stayed steady, taking a 34-20 lead into the half.Â
Rockford fired out of halftime with a newfound offensive focus, abandoning the three-ball for high percentage shots near the basket. They went 8-14 from the field in the third quarter and put up 16 points. Unfortunately, CUC went red hot from distance at the same time. They knocked down four total baskets in the period, all from beyond the arc.
The fourth quarter saw a lot of scoring (40 total points), but Rockford could never break through and get the deficit under double-digits. The Cougars kept them at bay with five more three-pointers to seal the 68-54 victory.
The Regents will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 14, when they head to Dominican University to take on the Blue Stars at 7 P.M.
