ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Rockford University women's volleyball team fell to the three-time defending NACC champion Edgewood University Eagles, 3-0, on Friday night.
Junior middle hitter
Jalyn Rhodes paced the team with seven kills.
Milee Law once again led the team in assists, totaling 13.Â
Lilly Dewey and
Leila Cooks tied for the lead in digs with seven apiece.
Rockford came out swinging to kick off the match. The Regents were neck-in-neck with Edgewood through most of the first frame. RU held a 20-18 lead before a 7-1 run gave the Eagles a victory in the first set.
The first half of the second period wasn't much different. Rockford again hung with the high-flying Eagles, trailing 15-12 at the media timeout. That's where the entire match took a turn. Edgewood fired out with a new hunger, reeling off a 10-2 run to win the set handily, 25-14.
Edgewood never let go of that momentum. A 9-2 deficit to start the final frame essentially sealed the Regents' fate. Edgewood continued its dominance, closing out the sweep with a 25-9 third set victory.
The Regents will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 20, when they take the trip to Milwaukee for a 7 p.m. match against Alverno.
