Regents Unable to Keep Up with Concordia Wisconsin

ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Rockford University football team fell to the NACC's reigning champions, the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons, 56-14 on Saturday afternoon.

Ryan Vasavilbaso spent the majority of the game behind center, tossing a touchdown on 21-of-31 passing for 134 yards. Cliffton Nunnally Jr. subbed in late and threw a touchdown of his own, going 7-of-8 for 101 yards.

The rushing attack didn't live up to its namesake. Malik Gordon led the team with 21 yards on 10 carries, while Nunnally Jr. followed him up with 19 yards on two attempts.

Napoleon Williams continued his assault on the record book, hauling in 11 catches for 65 yards and two touchdowns. He's now just 26 catches away from breaking the Regents' single-season record held by Joey Owens.

On the other side of the ball, Joey Alvarez and Ethan Rager made their usually impact. They tied for the team lead in tackles with seven, Rager finished with 3.0 tackles-for-loss and a sack, and Alvarez had 2.5 tackles-for-loss of his own.

The high-powered CUW offense had no trouble early in the game. The Falcons scored touchdowns on their first three drives to take a 21-0 lead.

After three straight punts to start the game, RU finally got moving in the right direction. Vasavilbaso completed six straight passes to Williams and Kenny Moten-Barden, culminating in a screen to Williams who scored from five yards out.

Concordia Wisconsin would score once more before the half, making it a 28-7 ballgame heading into the break.

The Falcons were even better in the third quarter. They scored touchdowns on their first four drives of the second half, going for a total of 236 yards on 16 plays. The Regents trailed 56-7 going into the fourth.

Nunnally Jr.'s emergence in the game provided the offense with a spark. A couple of scrambles and long completions led RU to the red zone where Williams punched in a button hook from 14 yards out.

The Falcons would run out the rest of the clock, sealing the 56-14 victory.

The Regents will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 24, when they travel to Milwaukee for a 1 p.m. kickoff against Wisconsin Lutheran.
