ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Rockford University men's soccer team stuck to its defensive game plan in a massive draw against the defending NACC Tournament Champions, the Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders on Saturday afternoon. The Regents snapped a 17-match losing streak to MSOE, with the tie marking the first time they've held the Raiders scoreless in a match.
Wesley Pritzlaff was dynamic in goal. He was peppered relentlessly by an MSOE attack that featured 31 shots, with 11 being on target. Pritzlaff totaled 10 saves and got some help from a backline that included
Bennett Abler and
Saidi Shabani.
This was a physical soccer match. Two yellow cards were levied against the Regents late in the first half.
RU didn't manage a shot until the second period.
Omar Gutierrez and
Jonathan Millan each sent tries on goal, but were thwarted away by Christian Dershem in red.
MSOE tried frantically to break the scoreless tie in the final moments, but the Regent defense held firm to secure the 0-0 draw against a perennial conference contender.
The Regents will try to roll this momentum into their final match of the season on Wednesday, Oct. 28, when they host Illinois Tech at 3:30 p.m. on the turf at Sam Greeley Field.
