Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Regents Motor Past Moody Bible on Senior Night

ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Rockford University women's volleyball team beat the Moody Bible College Archers, 3-1, on Tuesday evening. The Regents remain undefeated against the Archers in three all-time meetings.

RU celebrated two seniors in its penultimate home match. Leila Cooks led the team in digs with 19 (placing her 16 away from 1,000 on her career), and Jayce Shaw finished with seven kills from the outside.

Jalyn Rhodes and Ashley Mersch tied for the team lead in kills with nine apiece.

Setters Isabella Valdes and Milee Law were neck-in-neck for the match's assist title, with Valdes barely edging out Law, 17-16.

Falling down 2-1 to start things off, Rockford would never lose the lead again in the set, ring multiple 4-0 runs to a 25-17 win.

The second frame was much of the same. This time the Regents never trailed, dominating the set. They let the Archers hang around near the end, but ultimately closed out their second straight 25-17 finish.

The third set is where things got hairy. Moody Bible fired out with a new energy, reeling off seven points in a row to take a commanding 12-3 lead early. Rockford eventually clawed its way back into it to a 16-14 deficit, but the Archers weren't messing around. They were the better team in set #3, keeping themselves alive with a 25-18 win to make it a 2-1 match.

It looked like the Regents were going to make quick work of the Archers in the fourth set, jumping out to a 7-2 lead. Moody Bible trailed by as much as seven before a run near the end brought it within three. Kennedy Bryant's kill would secure the four set victory, 25-21.

The Regents will return to action on Thursday, Oct. 29, when they take on St. Norbert at 7 p.m. in De Pere, Wisconsin.
