MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The Rockford University men's soccer team earned its first NACC win of the season Saturday afternoon, defeating Wisconsin Lutheran College, 1-0, on the road. The victory snapped the Regents' two-game losing streak against the Warriors and marked Rockford's third win in the all-time series, with all three victories coming by a 1-0 score.
The teams remained scoreless through the first half before
Jose Lane Mendoza broke the deadlock in the 60th minute with an assist from
Omar Gutierrez. Mendoza's goal proved to be the game-winner as the Regents held off Wisconsin Lutheran for the remainder of the match.
Rockford outshot Wisconsin Lutheran, 8-6, and held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Devon Hinko, Mendoza,
Saidi Shabani,
Nathan Dorado, Gutierrez, and
Oziel Morales each recorded a shot on goal.
Wesley Pritzlaff made four saves before
Jack Potter entered for the final 49 seconds to help preserve the shutout.
The Regents will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 7, when they host Benedictine University for a 4 p.m. kickoff at Sam Greeley Field.
