Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Regents Come Up Short At Edgewood

MADISON, Wis. -- The Rockford University men's basketball team took on the Edgewood University Eagles on Saturday afternoon. After a back-and-forth affair, the Eagles edged out Rockford 75-71.

Tre Miller led the way scoring the basketball, finishing with 18 points. Jaden Bell kept up his stellar last few weeks, putting up a 17 and 11 double-double while also leading the team in dimes with four.

This was a close one for a majority of the contest. Edgewood jumped out to the first lead of the game and kept it for nearly all of the first half, never leading by more than six.

The Eagles shot the ball well in the first period, going 15-28 from the floor and 6-14 from three. Rockford kept themselves in it by shooting well in their own right from the field, going 15-31.

The biggest difference was in the long ball. Edgewood knocked down six threes to Rockford's one in the first half. It was nine to five for the game in favor of the Eagles.

The Regents came out and evened the game to start the second half. Rockford took its first lead of the period five minutes in at 46-44. All the momentum seemed to be with RU, after extending the lead to eight off a Bell fast break layup with under ten minutes remaining.

From there it was all Eagles. Edgewood finished tough bucket after tough bucket and went on an 18-4 run to take a 66-60 lead with three minutes left. Rockford hit a few desperation threes down the stretch but could never gain the lead back, losing 75-71.

The Regents will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 11, when they travel to Aurora to take on the Spartans at 3 p.m. CST.
