ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Rockford University women's volleyball team fell in four sets to the Beloit College Buccaneers on Tuesday evening.
Lilly Dewey led the team with 11 kills.
Jalyn Rhodes contributed eight of her own.
Isabella Valdes racked up 17 assists as the main setter.
Carlie Buetsch paced the team with 15 digs.
The first three sets were tightly contested. At one point in the first set, the two teams traded 10 consecutive points. Beloit finally found an opening with five points won in a row to go up 15-10. The Regents were able to cut the lead to one down the stretch, trailing 22-21. Beloit closed things out to take set #1, 25-21.
Beloit used that momentum to jump out to a big lead in the second set, leading 11-3 before RU woke up. The Regents found their footing and eventually tied the set up at 19. The Bucs once again took control at the end to win 25-20 and take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
With their backs against the wall, the Regents played their best set of the evening. This one was back and forth until the end, with a Rhodes kill sealing the win 25-23.
That would be the lone victory of the night for RU. Beloit didn't mess around in set #4, leading by double-digits and didn't let the Regents find any daylight. Beloit took the match 3-1 with a 25-18 win in the fourth set.
The Regents will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 5, for a triangular against Eureka and Principia starting at 10 a.m.
