ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Rockford University men's soccer team strengthened its case as a NACC contender Wednesday afternoon by battling longtime conference powerhouse Dominican University to a scoreless draw. The result ended the Regents' 30-match losing streak against the Stars, who have captured 26 combined NACC regular-season and tournament championships and remain the only program to qualify for the conference tournament in each of the league's 20 seasons. Wesley Pritzlaff, supported by a stout Regent defense, also handed Dominican its first shutout in more than 32 years.
Both teams were held scoreless throughout the 90 minutes.
Dominican outshot Rockford 11-6 and had two more shots on goal with five to the Regents' three. Rockford held a 2-1 nod in corner kicks.
Jose Lane Mendoza had both shots on goal for the Regents while also leading the team with three total shots.
Pritzlaff made four saves for the Regents after coming in for Batres in the 36th minute, while Roberto Navarro Mercado stopped three shots for Dominican.
The Regents will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 26, as they will stay at Sam Greeley Field for a 10 a.m. kickoff against Marian University.
