ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Rockford University football team fell to Aurora University, 61-5, on Saturday afternoon at Sam Greeley Field.
Aurora got on the board first on its first possession with a four-play, 88-yard drive that took just 47 seconds. After a three-and-out by the Regents on the next possession, the Spartans found the end zone again as Jackson Alcorn found Carter London for an 11-yard touchdown. On the extra point, Wendell Harris blocked the PAT and returned it for two points as Aurora led 13-2. Late in the first quarter, Alcorn found Ethan Savoboda for a 29-yard touchdown, followed by a successful two-point conversion as the Spartans led 21-2 after the first quarter.
The Spartans scored three more touchdowns in the second quarter as Alcorn continued his success through the air. Rockford scored three points as Kavi Wadhwa made his collegiate debut at kicker with an 18-yard field goal, as Rockford trailed 42-5 heading into halftime.
Aurora added two more touchdown passes from Alcorn in the third quarter before Dermarion Williams capped the scoring with a 16-yard touchdown run with under 30 seconds remaining in the game.
The Spartans outgained the Regents, 620-255, in total offense. Ryan Vasavilbaso led the team on the ground with seven rushing attempts for 48 yards. Through the air, Vasavilbaso completed 23 of 37 passes for 190 yards. Napoleon Williams once again led the Regents in receptions with 10 catches for 86 yards, while Kenny Moten-Barden led the team in receiving yards with 92 on four catches.
Joey Alvarez and Matthew Hill each led the team with nine tackles, while Andrew Spillman and Cory Wysinger each recorded an interception.
The Regents will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 3, when they host St. Norbert College for the annual Homecoming game at Sam Greeley Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
