Will Lawhorn was hired as a member of the Rockford University football coaching staff in March 2021. Lawhorn spent one season as the Regents' special teams coordinator and the offensive line coach, and now serves as the program's offensive line and strength and conditioning coach.
Most recently, Lawhorn served as an assistant coach at both Lyon College and MacMurray College. In his one season at MacMurray, Lawhorn served as the team's offensive line coach and helped lead the Highlanders to a 5-5 record, including a 5-3 mark in conference play. The Highlander offense averaged over 31 points per game, compiled 1,312 yards rushing, allowed just 10 sacks in conference play and had an All-UMAC performer during his tenure. In addition to coaching the offensive lineman, Lawhorn was also the program's assistant strength and conditioning coach. While at Lyon, Lawhorn was both the program's defensive line coach and head strength and conditioning coach.
Prior to entering the coaching ranks, Lawhorn was a four-year member of the Rockford University football program. Lawhorn's career culminated with him earning First Team All-NACC status and anchoring one of Rockford's most productive offensive lines in recent memory. At the end of his senior season, Rockford finished with the second most yards in total offense (3,643), the second most rushing yards (1,663) and the third most passing yards (1,980) in a single-season since joining the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference in 2008.
Lawhorn graduated from Rockford University in 2019 with a bachelor's degree in Physical Education and a minor in Health.
