ROCKFORD, Ill. - After dropping three of their last four games, the Regents were looking rebound as they hosted Milwaukee School of Engineering Saturday afternoon at the Seaver Center. It was a back and fourth affair as both teams traded buckets for the first ten minutes of the game. Rockford started to open up the game off a layup by junior guard Sherrell Woods (Rockford, Ill./East) that made the score 14-11. From there, the Regents would go on a 15-10 run to end the 1st half with a 29-21 lead.
The Regents outrebounded the Raiders 20-12 in the half with 12 of them being offensive. Rockford was able to utilize the press to force 15 Raider turnovers and poor shot selection late in the shot clock. The Regents also collected 10 first half assists on 12 made baskets.
Rockford came out hot the 2nd half utlizing the press once again to jump out to a quick 8-0 run and 37-21 lead off a pair of free throws from junior guard Erin Ryczek (South Beloit, Ill./Hononegah). MSOE would battle back to make it a five point game but the Regents would hold off the Raiders on way to a 57-46 victory.
For the game, Rockford outrebounded the Raiders 46-25 and pulled in a season high 27 offensive rebounds. The Regents shot an impressive 17-19 from the free throw line while MSOE went 11-22. The Regents were led by senior forward Nicole Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./Pearl City) who scored a team-high 13 points while pulling in a game-high 15 rebounds. Woods would finish with 12 points while Ryczek scored 10 points to go with 6 rebounds.
The women will host Concordia University Chicago January 16th at the Seaver Center. Tipoff is set for 7:00 PM
