ROCKFORD, Ill. - It had been nearly a month since the Regents last home game as Rockford welcomed the Northern Athletic Conference leading Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors to the Seaver Center Tuesday night. The Regents made three of their first four shots to jump out to a quick 6-2 lead off a jump shot by junior guard Sherrell Woods (Rockford, Ill./East).
The first half was tight as the Regents took the largest lead of the half off a pair of free throws from junior guard Erin Ryczek (South Beloit, Ill./South Beloit) to go up 17-11 with 12 minutes remaining. Wisconsin Lutheran battled back with a 25-16 run to take a 36-33 lead into the half. Rockford would go 10-12 from the free throw line while the Warriors would go 2-8.
Ryczek led the Regents in the 2nd half, scoring the teams first 5 points as Rockford tried to keep up with the Warriors. Wisconsin Lutheran shot 54% in the 2nd half including 5-8 from the 3-point line. The Regents committed 13 turnovers but were able to outrebound the Warriors 17-8 in the half.
In the Final minutes the Regents were able to cut down the Warriors double digit lead but couldn't get the lead under 6. Wisconsin Lutheren ran out the clock to a 74-66 victory. Ryczek finished with a team-high 15 points with 4 rebounds. Senior forward Nicole Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./Pearl City), junior forward Jessica Bjerning (Wauconda, Ill./Mundelein), and Woods finished with 10 points each.
Rockford will have the rest of the week off and host MSOE Saturday at the Seaver Center. Tip-off is set for 2:00 PM.
