ROCKFORD, Ill.- The Rockford University men's soccer team faced Marian University today at Sam Greeley Field on the eve of homecoming. It was a close game all the way through but Marian came away with the 3-0 victory.
The Regents and the Sabres battled the entire first half with neither team able to get on the scoreboard. It was a tough defensive half with numerous hard tackles and fouls. The Sabres got on the board early in the second half with a goal at the 49:33 mark. They then added two quick goals at the 61:14 and 61:52 marks. The Regents had some chances to score a couple goals but senior Sam Medina-Conchi (Milwaukee, Wis./Ronald Reagan) missed two shots just barely above the cross-bar. Chris Kunde (Sterling, Ill./Sterling) played a great game in goal, making eight saves while dealing with a tough sun in the second half.
Rockford continues play next Sunday October 19th at 11 a.m. when conference opponent Dominican comes into town. They are then on the road their next three games before finishing at home against Concordia Chicago on October 29th.
