Volleyball Drops Tough Home Match

ROCKFORD, Ill.- The Rockford University volleyball team took on Lakeland College Friday night at the Seaver Center. Coming off a difficult home loss to Concordia University Wisconsin on Tuesday night the Regents looked to rebound against the Muskies, one of the top teams in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. Unfortunately, the Regents fell in straight sets to the Muskies.

Rockford put themselves into an early hole when they dropped the first game 25 to 9. A cold streak in the middle of the set doomed the Regents. Despite the lopsided loss in the first set Rockford did not let it get to them and had a great second set, narrowly coming away with the key second set victory. Rockford had multiple chances to come away with the set point but each time Lakeland came back and tied the set. Lakeland eventually outlasted Rockford and won 30-28. The intensity continued into the third set as it again came down to the wire. Lakeland pulled away at the end for a 25-21 win. The Regents finished the third set without making an attack error and had 11 kills. They finished the match with a total of 29 kills.

Leading the way for the Regents was once again Katelyn Hasken (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) who finished the match with 9 kills on 29 attempts and only 3 attack errors. She added in 9 digs. Freshman Taylor Rossi (Ingleside, Ill./Grant Community) had a great game finishing with 6 kills, 21 assists, and 9 digs. Senior Heather Hyland (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere) led both teams with 16 digs and also added in 5 kills. Erin Pederson (Oregon, Ill./Oregon) had a game high 4 block assists and also contributed 4 kills on 13 attempts.

Rockford looks to rebound quickly as they take on Marian University at 9 a.m. Saturday. They finish the season with two more home games; one against Wisconsin Lutheran on October 23rd at 7 p.m. and the other game is against Benedictine University on October 26th at 1 p.m.
