ROCKFORD, IL.- The Rockford University men's soccer team returned to the field after a full week off. They once again fell short in a tough and close game. The Regents fell 3-1 to Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa.
Rockford and Cornell battled all game as the teams combined for 6 yellowcards, 16 fouls, and 2 penalty goals. Cornell broke the scoreless tie with a goal at the 25:00 minute mark. They added two more goals over the next 40 minutes to take a 3-0 lead. Rockford ended Cornell's chance for a shutout when Diego Ramos (Chicago, IL/Jefferson) found the back of the net on a penalty kick at the 88 minute mark. The Regents defense played well all game and they were led by goalie Chris Kunde (Sterling, IL/Sterling) who recorded six saves and faced 14 shots overall. Ramos led the Regents with 3 shots on goal.
The Regents have the opportunity to bounce back quickly as they return to the field tomorrow at 2pm when they face Buena Vista College at home. Six days later Lakeland College comes to town to begin the Regents conference schedule. The teams square off at 2pm at Sam Greely field.
