Regents Drop Final Two at Buc Blast; Hasken Named to All-Tournament Team

BELOIT, Wis. - Following a 1-1 start at the Buccaneer Blast Tournament on Friday, the Regents went into Saturday knowing they had to play the top two teams in the tournament. Rockford opened with the University of Dubuque Spartans and followed with a match against NACC opponent Marian University.

The Regents and Spartans opened Saturday's slate of matches with a 5-set thriller. After losing the first two sets 25-15 and 25-23, Rockford battled back to win the third set 25-22 and the fourth set 25-23 to force a fifth and decisive set. However, it was not meant to be as the Spartans rolled to a 15-8 victory in the final set taking the match 3-2. Junior Katelyn Hasken (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) continued her stellar play once again leading the Regents offensively. Hasken recorded 12 kills and just 1 attack error on 28 attempts. Freshman Taylor Rossi (Ingleside, Ill./Grant Community) handed out a season-high 31 assists and had 14 digs to record her first double-double of the season. Junior Erin Pederson (Oregon, Ill./Oregon) played a solid all-around game for Rockford. Pederson had a team-high 3 service aces, 5 kills, 6 digs and led the Regents with 8 blocks including a match-high 4 solo blocks.

Rockford's second match on Saturday was a difficult one for the Regents. After losing a hard-fought opening set 25-21, the Regents struggled to build any momentum in the final two sets as the Sabres took the match in straight sets. Junior Erin Pederson played well in the loss leading the Regents in kills with 7.

The ladies finished the Buccaneer Blast Tournament with a 1-3 record. Katelyn Hasken earned herself a place on All-Tournament Team for her outstanding play over the weekend. Hasken finished with a team-high 33 kills. The junior also had 10 digs, 5 blocks and 2 service aces.

Rockford opens the home portion of its schedule on Wednesday, September 4th against Loras College. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. in the Seaver Center.
