GALESBURG, Ill. - After a difficult 0-2 start to the season, the Rockford University men's soccer team hoped to rebound on Wednesday at Knox College. However, today was not the Regents day as the Prairie Fire scored early and often coasting to a 9-0 victory.
Knox controlled the match from the opening whistle to the final second. The Prairie Fire jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead scoring just over 1 minute into the match. Rockford was unable to contain the Prairie Fire allowing four additional first half goals and went into the half trailing 5-0. It was much of the same in the second half as Knox found the back of the net four more times to win the match 9-0.
The Regents were outshot 25-1 on Wednesday. The lone shot for Rockford came in the second half off the foot of junior Diego Ramos (Chicago, Ill./Jefferson). It was the first shot of the season for the junior after he played just seven minutes and thirty seconds total in the first two matches of the year.
The men's soccer team will try to get its first win of the season on Saturday when it travels to Crown College. The match is set to begin at 11 a.m.
