ROCKFORD, Ill.- For ninety-four minutes it appeared as though the Rockford University men's soccer team would finish their final home match of the season as they finished their first home match of the season with an overtime tie. Battling the Regents Saturday afternoon at Sam Greeley Field was the Edgewood College Eagles, the 5th place team in the NACC. Neither team allowed a goal through the first ninety minutes. The tie would be broken four minutes into the first overtime period.
Defense was the name of the game for both teams in the first half. Edgewood attempted five shots on Rockford's goal while Rockford attempted two shots on goal in the half. Rockford had a great scoring chance at the 29:21 mark but Adam Seiter (Rockford, Ill./Boylan) missed just wide of the Eagles goal. The Regents other scoring chance of the half was at the 39:57 mark but the shot attempt by Michael Mottonen (South Barrington, Ill./Fremd) was saved by the Eagles goalie.
Edgewood stepped up its attacking in the second half. They attempted 12 shots in the second half compared to five shots in the first half. The revved up offense by Edgewood forced Rockford to play defense for much of the half and the Regents could not mount their own offensive attack. Kyle Adams (St. Louis, Mo./Timberland) continued to play solid in goal to force a ten-minute overtime. It would be Rockford's fourth overtime match of the season. Unfortunately for the Regents, the Eagles were able to grab a loose ball in front of the net and put it past Adams to score the game-winning goal 4:10 into the first overtime period.
Rockford concludes its 2014 season on Wednesday the 29th at Concordia Chicago with a start time of 3:00 p.m.
